Accent Lights – As the name implies, these are used to accentuate or emphasize an area, object or certain focal point or feature of your garden. They come in a range of colors and can enhance the mood you wish to set. Having a garden or patio with nice furniture and surroundings can be made to look even more elegant simply by using accent lighting, since specific features can be brought to life at night. Most accent lights use halogen bulbs, although LED and solar powered options are rapidly becoming more popular. Low voltage and solar powered versions are energy efficient and can save you money. It's best to use small, subtle lamps that blend in during the day and set just the right tone after the sun goes down.
Because they are self contained, solar powered outdoor lighting will still come on, even in a power outage. No more coming home at night during a storm and not being able to see up your walk, or struggling to find the right door key. They even have security outdoor lighting with solar power. Motion sensitive solar lights are even offered. No more worries about your security lighting going out during a storm either. Solar powered outdoor lighting has other advantages as well. Because they don't need any external power source, they can be used anywhere you might need a little extra outdoor lighting. There are lights that can be set up in the garden, on the back porch or patio, and even far away in the yard. There is no need to run a power cord, or keep it from getting messed up in the weather.
Low voltage lighting is the type of outdoor landscape lighting that uses just 12 volts of electricity instead of 120 volts. Using this 12-volt system will not require you to hire an electrician for installation. They are safe and easy to work with, and are quite popular with many homeowners. An added benefit of the 12-volt system is that light fixtures can be added on and adjusted even though they are plugged in and working. Outdoor lighting low voltage kits are very affordable and are usually found in home and garden centers and many hardware stores.
